The Flicka Foundation Donkey Sanctuary is a registered charity based in South Cornwall, UK. Founded by Mary Berryman in 1995.
Have you spent any length of time with a Donkey? I was lucky to have friends who kept two donkeys as pets. When I visited them I loved to spend time with their donkeys who, as they became used to seeing me, recognised me and loved to say hello and loved being made a fuss of! They are truly social, friendly and loving animals!
Yet for centuries, man has used them commercially for carrying all kinds of goods and materials and so often, until the donkey has been driven into the ground for having been worked so hard and never been taken care of. Equally, they may have been acquired as a pet but become abandoned and left in a field. So often, donkeys are either abused as a 'workhorse' or a pet.
The Flicka Foundation donkey sanctuary in Penryn, Cornwall is one of my favourite animal rescue sanctuary's to personally visit with my rescue dog, Freddie. The location is easy to access and is open to the Public without having to book to visit. It is free to go to with plenty of parking. You can enjoy petting the donkeys and if you have a dog, provided they are kept on a lead, they are very welcome and a number of the donkeys are happy to have a nose boop. There are distant sea views and a lovely onsite cafe. If you can make a small donation, (nobody asks you to), that helps with their enormous

running costs in taking care of over 100 rescue donkeys and ponies.
