Marine Conservation Society

The Marine Conservation Society is a registered charity in England and Wales that works to make British marine life thrive and flourish and our coastal shore lines more environmentally friendly.

Marine Conservation Society is a UK wide network of people working to preserve our marine life by both direct action such as organised beach cleans and through education and awareness by way of media campaigns and get-together events.

Anyone can be a Member of the society or, you can follow the events page for organised events where you can simply join in as it suits you.

So why is the Marine Conservation Society one of our beneficiaries??

It all comes down to our awareness to conserve, preserve, regenerate our Ecology, Biodiversity and Marine life that frankly, is under threat from humankinds lack of respect for its importance in our lives. Possibly, because our Oceans and Seas are so vast we have tended not to think too much about its welfare but due to awareness documentaries such as the BBC's Blue Planet documentary we are able to see how so many marine species have come under threat due to hazardous waste pumped into our seas by Water Boards and commercial business. From over fishing and fishing for the fins of sharks. From what is called 'By-catch', the marine life that is captured in enormous trawler nets that is not the intended catch but which has died or thrown back in a fatal condition.

As populations increase so has the demand on fish stocks which struggle to thrive. The obvious discarding of waste from commercial ships into our seas that does not break down.

We are now at the point where we are literally, through eating fish, starting to eat our own waste!

On top of this, when we visit our coasts for holidays many resorts are left in what can only be described as an 'abused' condition. People are literally burying food wrappers, beer bottles, disposable BBQ trays, used babies nappies and even drug needles! From boats and on coastlines, all around the world, our Oceans have become the dumping grounds of humans which is wiping out marine life!

We NEED, the likes of the Marine Conservation Society to do the work they do but to be able to do it, they need our support!
